Chapter One
Principles of Happiness

The concept of happiness has been studied for thousands of years and yet, to many people, happiness remains elusive. It need not be. The first step is to define your own happiness. What makes you happy is different from everyone else. It's like the snowflake, no two definitions of happiness are the same.

You need not make the definition complicated  And, you need not stick with your definition for any measure of time. Keep your definition written down and in a drawer by your nightstand. Review it often and change it often ... even if in the middle of the night when you wake up with a new idea that makes you "happy" to think about. Your definition of happiness is never complete, it's always changing. Just as a coach changes the game plan with each new competitor, change your happiness plan with each change in your personal situation. Don't stick with a happiness plan that no longer makes you happy.

As you massage your definition of happiness, there are well documented principles of happiness that will help keep you on track.

Make sure your happiness plan includes things you want to accomplish, things that excite and motivate you, things that make you "choose to chance the rapids and dare to dance the tide".
